I'm a freelance journalist and a Guest Editor on NowPublic.com. I started off on staff for around six years in London, working for the media trade titles, writing about media, new media and advertising.
My attraction to journalism had always been to the 'dodging bullets in Basra' type, so after a few years of freelancing for the trades and nationals I cut loose and headed off to Argentina for a year and a half, where I filed for the BBC, the Guardian and CNN Traveler.
Then it was back to London for a year to recalibrate, and I am now based in Mexico City. OK, so I'm not dodging bullets but this is more the kind of journalism that I had in mind when I started writing for my student newspaper all those years ago.
Due to my background in covering new media, I'm really interested in how internet and mobile technologies can help journalism, and run www.newcorrespondent.com. The site is kind of an experiment and uses mobile (Twitter and Moblog), video, photography and words to send content to the minds of the masses. |
